Overview
Biodiversity refers to the variety of life found within an area. It includes plants, animals, fungi, microorganisms, and the ecosystems they form together. Every species plays a role within an ecosystem, helping to maintain ecological balance and supporting the many natural processes that sustain life.
Healthy ecosystems depend on healthy biodiversity. When biodiversity is reduced, ecosystems become less stable and less able to provide essential services such as clean water, food production, pollination, nutrient cycling, and climate regulation.
