About the Course

The Learning and Development Practitioner programme equips learners with the knowledge, practical skills, and workplace experience required to facilitate occupational learning and work-based learning interventions within organisational environments.

The course focuses on facilitation techniques, learner support practices, experiential learning, coaching, mentorship, work-based learning models, and workplace learning implementation strategies aligned to South African occupational standards and QCTO requirements.

Learners will develop the ability to plan, facilitate, support, monitor, and evaluate learning interventions in both classroom and workplace environments. The programme also introduces learners to adult learning principles, learner engagement strategies, work-based learning scheduling, mentorship relationships, and workplace coaching practices.

The qualification combines:

  • theoretical knowledge,
  • practical facilitation activities,
  • and structured workplace experience

to ensure learners can confidently support learning and development within real organisational settings.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this course, learners should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • NQF Level 4 qualification or equivalent
  • Communication skills at NQF Level 4
  • Access to a workplace or simulated learning environment
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Ability to communicate effectively in learning environments

Course Content

KM-04: Facilitation of Learning in an Occupational Context
This knowledge module introduces learners to the principles and practices of facilitating learning within occupational and workplace environments. The module focuses on adult learning principles, facilitation methods, learner engagement strategies, and learner support practices used in occupational training contexts. Learners will develop an understanding of how to prepare, deliver, and manage learning interventions that support workplace competence and skills development. The module also explores communication techniques, facilitation approaches, and strategies for creating inclusive and effective learning environments. By the end of the module, learners will understand how facilitation supports learner development, workplace performance, and occupational competence.

KM-07: Work Based Learning
This knowledge module introduces learners to the principles, structures, and practices involved in work-based learning within occupational environments. The module focuses on workplace learning delivery models, planning and scheduling workplace learning activities, facilitation of work-based learning interventions, and the evaluation of learner progression in workplace contexts. Learners will explore coaching, mentorship, task-focused facilitation, and experiential learning approaches used to support workplace competence development. The module also examines how workplace learning activities are aligned to operational requirements, production schedules, and organisational goals. By the end of the module, learners will understand how work-based learning supports occupational competence, performance improvement, and continuous workplace development.

PM-05: Facilitate Experiential Work-Based Learning
This practical module focuses on the facilitation of experiential work-based learning interventions within occupational environments. Learners will develop practical skills in planning workplace learning activities, facilitating task-focused learning sessions, and establishing mentorship relationships that support learner development and workplace competence. The module emphasises coaching, mentorship, workplace guidance, implementation scheduling, and learner support practices aligned with operational requirements. Learners will also apply communication, facilitation, and workplace coordination skills during simulated and workplace-based learning interventions. By the end of the module, learners will be able to facilitate structured work-based learning activities that support occupational competence and workplace performance development.

WM-05: Facilitate a Work Based Learning and Development Process
This work experience module provides learners with the opportunity to apply workplace learning and development practices within real occupational environments under the guidance of subject matter experts. Learners will participate in the implementation of work-based learning interventions, coaching sessions, workplace guidance activities, and learner development processes aligned with organisational requirements. The module focuses on workplace implementation planning, operational alignment, learner support, and practical workplace coaching experiences. Learners will also compile workplace evidence portfolios and participate in reflective workplace learning activities that support occupational competence development. Through structured workplace exposure, learners will strengthen their ability to facilitate and support work-based learning interventions within real organisational contexts.
