Artificial Intelligence Foundations (Module 1)

Artificial Intelligence Foundations (Module 1) introduces learners to the core concepts, language and real-world impact of Artificial Intelligence. This module forms part of the Occupational Certificate: Artificial Intelligence Software Developer and is designed as the entry point into the full AI programme.

In this course, learners build a clear understanding of what AI is, how it has evolved over time, and why it matters in modern society and business. We explore the difference between narrow, general and super intelligence, look at key fields related to AI such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science, Robotics and Automation, and unpack how these technologies work together in real applications.

The module also looks at where AI is already being used – from healthcare, finance and agriculture to gaming, education and everyday digital tools. Learners examine both the benefits and limitations of AI, including data, ethics, skills and cost challenges, so that they can think critically about opportunities and risks.
