Fundamental Module 1: Determine the Banking-Related Financial Needs of a Business
Understanding the financial needs of business clients is one of the core responsibilities of banking professionals. Every business, regardless of its size or industry, requires financial products and services that support its daily operations, cash flow, growth and long-term sustainability. The ability to identify these needs accurately enables banking professionals to recommend suitable financial solutions that create value for both the client and the financial institution. This module introduces learners to the process of determining the banking-related financial needs of business clients. Learners will develop an understanding of different business entities, business operations, financial requirements and the range of banking products and services available to meet those needs. The module also explores effective client engagement, information gathering, financial analysis and solution-based banking practices. Throughout the module, learners will learn how to analyse business information, identify opportunities to provide banking solutions, and make recommendations that align with organisational policies, client objectives, and sound banking practices. Emphasis is placed on professional communication, ethical conduct, and building long-term business relationships. By the end of this module, learners will be able to confidently identify the financial requirements of business clients, evaluate appropriate banking products and services, and provide informed recommendations that support effective business banking relationships.

Fundamental Module 2: Provide Sales Related Services within the Banking Sector
Providing sales-related services within the banking sector requires far more than promoting financial products. Banking professionals must identify prospective clients, understand their financial needs, build and maintain strong customer relationships, apply professional selling techniques and contribute to the achievement of organisational sales objectives. This module develops the knowledge and practical skills required to provide professional sales services within a banking environment. Learners will explore prospecting, client relationship management, customer databases, interpersonal selling skills, sales territory management, distributor relationships and strategies for maintaining and growing sales business. Throughout the module, emphasis is placed on ethical sales practices, customer service, communication, planning and continuous business development. By the end of this module, learners will be able to identify business opportunities, manage client relationships, conduct professional sales engagements, administer sales activities and contribute to the growth of banking products and services while supporting organisational objectives.

Core Module 3: Authorise and Release Foreign Finance Loans
Foreign finance plays an important role in international banking by enabling businesses to access funding from foreign lenders while ensuring compliance with exchange control regulations and banking policies. Banking professionals responsible for foreign finance must ensure that every stage of the lending process is completed accurately, from authorising the facility to releasing funds, recording transactions, processing repayments and resolving customer queries. This module develops the knowledge and practical skills required to manage foreign finance loans within a regulated banking environment. It covers the regulatory framework governing foreign finance facilities, exchange control requirements, loan authorisation procedures, drawdown of funds, repayment processes and customer query management. Throughout this module, emphasis is placed on regulatory compliance, internal controls, risk management, accurate record-keeping and professional customer service. By applying these principles, banking professionals help protect both the financial institution and its clients while supporting secure international financial transactions.

Core Module 4: Consult to Clients on Trade Related Issues
International trade presents businesses with opportunities to expand into global markets, but it also introduces new financial, regulatory and operational challenges. Banking professionals play an essential role in helping clients understand international trade, identify suitable trade finance solutions and manage the risks associated with cross-border transactions. This module equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to consult professionally with business clients on trade-related matters. It explores how to identify a client's trade requirements, explain South Africa's trade environment, introduce trade finance products and services, communicate trade finance risks and recommend appropriate banking solutions. By the end of the module, learners will be able to confidently assist clients in making informed decisions about their international trade activities while ensuring compliance with banking policies and regulatory requirements.

Core Module 5: Apply Business Financial Practices
Sound financial management is fundamental to the success and sustainability of every business. Banking professionals and business advisors must understand how financial planning, financial statements and financial forecasting contribute to informed decision-making, organisational growth and long-term profitability. This module develops the knowledge and practical skills required to apply business financial practices when analysing and advising organisations. Learners will explore the financial aspects of a business, interpret financial statements and prepare financial forecasts using recognised financial principles and standard business practices. By the end of this module, learners will be able to interpret financial information confidently and apply sound financial practices to support effective business decision-making.

Elective Module 6: Prepare, Implement, Manage and Control Budgets
Effective budgeting is one of the most important management practices within any organisation. A well-prepared budget enables managers to allocate resources efficiently, monitor organisational performance, control expenditure and make informed financial decisions. It also supports strategic planning by translating organisational objectives into measurable financial plans. This module equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to prepare, implement, manage and control organisational budgets. Learners will develop an understanding of budgeting principles, financial reporting, legislative requirements, variance analysis, financial performance measurement and budget monitoring. The module also explores different budgeting techniques, financial ratios, budget preparation processes and methods for adapting budgets to changing business conditions. By the end of this module, learners will be able to prepare realistic budgets, analyse financial performance, investigate budget variances and recommend appropriate financial actions that support organisational objectives.

Elective Module 7: Authorise and Release an Export Letter of Credit
Export Letters of Credit play a critical role in international trade by providing a secure payment mechanism between buyers and sellers operating in different countries. They reduce payment risk, promote confidence between trading partners and ensure that payment is made only when the terms and conditions of the Letter of Credit have been met. This module equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to authorise and release Export Letters of Credit in accordance with international banking practices and organisational procedures. Learners will examine the advising process, verify compliance with internationally accepted standards, identify trade finance risks, authorise and release drawing documents, and respond effectively to customer queries. Throughout the module, emphasis is placed on compliance with the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP), the International Standard Banking Practice (ISBP), risk management, document verification, reimbursement procedures and professional customer service. By the end of the module, learners will be able to process Export Letters of Credit accurately, manage associated risks and provide effective support to clients throughout the transaction lifecycle.

Elective Module 8: Compute the Estate Duty Liability in a Deceased Estate
Estate duty forms an important part of deceased estate administration in South Africa. Before an estate can be finalised, the executor must determine the value of the deceased's property, calculate the dutiable estate, determine the allowable deductions and abatements, calculate the estate duty payable and apportion the liability to the appropriate persons in accordance with the Estate Duty Act. This module equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to calculate estate duty accurately. Learners will identify property and deemed property included in an estate, determine the dutiable estate and dutiable amount, apply allowable deductions and abatements, calculate estate duty payable and determine how the liability should be apportioned among the responsible parties. Throughout the module, emphasis is placed on applying the provisions of the Estate Duty Act, performing accurate financial calculations and ensuring compliance with South African legislation governing deceased estates.

Elective Module 9: Enhance the Performance of Employees
High-performing organisations recognise that employee performance is closely linked to organisational success. Effective performance management involves more than evaluating employees—it includes setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, coaching employees, resolving workplace conflict, supporting employee development and assisting employees with personal or work-related challenges. This module equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to enhance employee performance through structured performance management, conflict resolution, employee orientation and induction, training and development, and employee support. Learners will develop the ability to improve individual and team performance while fostering a positive, productive and supportive workplace environment. Throughout the module, emphasis is placed on performance planning, coaching, feedback, grievance handling, induction programmes, mentoring, confidentiality, empathy and employee well-being as essential components of effective people management.
